Heatwave to hit Scotland this week as temperatures set to soar

Scotland is on course for another heatwave this week as forecasters expect temperatures to soar over the coming days.

The Met Office is anticipating large swathes of the country to go through a warm and dry spell from this Wednesday.

Temperatures are expected to peak particularly at the weekend, with the thermostat reaching close to the mid-20s.

Glasgow, Edinburgh and Perth could see the best of the conditions on Sunday, with the warm climates reaching 24C.

The north east of the country will be slightly cooler, but is expected to see temperatures remain at a consistent 20C throughout the week.

On its forecast for Wednesday to Friday, the Met Office said: “Mostly dry with sunny spells, but cloudier at times with light rain in the far north and northwest.

“Generally light winds and becoming warmer, but cooler on some coasts.”

Scotland’s summer has been a mixed bag so far - with a string of hot days being cancelled out by recent flash flooding in some parts.

A number of shops in Edinburgh’s city centre were struck by floods as heavy rain continued to chuck it down just over a week ago.

But the warmer weather presents its own problems as most of Scotland will be on high alert for UV levels during the forecasted heatwave.

Scots who suffer from hay fever have been urged to take care during the hot spell, with the pollen count expected to remain high over the coming days.
