PATNA: With Buxar remaining the hottest place in the state on the fifth consecutive day, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday ruled out any respite from scorching heat and predicted heatwave spell to continue at least till next Tuesday.
However, people at a few places in northeast Bihar can expect slight respite from the prevailing heat, as weathermen have predicted light rainfall in that part of the state on Sunday and Tuesday. Buxar was the only district in Bihar where heatwave was declared on Friday.
As per the norms of IMD, heat wave condition is said to prevail at place when the normal temperature is 40-degree C and above, and the actual temperature continuous to be 4.5 notches above the respective normal for two consecutive days.
The maximum temperature was above 40 degrees C in four out of the 38 districts in the state on Friday. Buxar had the highest maximum temperature at 42.4 degrees C. The maximum temperature at Patna was 37.6 degrees C. The average maximum temperature in the state remained in the range of 33-38 degrees C, whereas the minimum temperature was in the 22-25 degrees C range.
Even though scorching heat has thrown normal life out of gear, the maximum temperature has slightly plunged over the last couple of days. The maximum temperature was above 40 degrees C in 15 districts on Wednesday, which came down to eight districts on Thursday and further to four on Friday.
Weathermen said the temperature experience by the human body may be more than that recorded due to the combined effect of temperature, wind and humidity.
“Hot westerly winds are blowing in south Bihar, while moist easterly and south-easterly winds are blowing in southern parts of the state. As a result, the weather will continue to remain dry and hot. Buxar, Kaimur, Rohtas, Aurangabad, Gaya, Nawada, Sheikhpura, Jamui and Banka may face loo (hot westerlies) like conditions over the next two days. Thus, people are advised to take necessary precautions and avoid going outdoors unnecessarily," said Amit Sinha, meteorologist at Patna Meteorological Centre.
