Heatwave forecast with UK set to bake in 33C highs this weekend

  • The UK is experiencing a continued heatwave , with temperatures expected to remain high this weekend after peaking at 35.5C in Wisley, Surrey , on Thursday.
  • Amber heat health alerts have been issued by the UK Health Security Agency for the Midlands , eastern and southern England until 12 July, with yellow alerts in place for northern England.
  • Forecasts indicate that the South and South West will continue to see very warm conditions, with highs of 33C expected in areas like Taunton and Yeovil over the weekend, while northern cities such as Manchester and Leeds will also remain above 30C.
  • Although temperatures may slightly ease in some areas next week, high pressure is expected to persist, shifting the focus of the hottest conditions towards the South West, with a growing risk of isolated showers or thunderstorms .
  • This current heat follows England's hottest June on record and Wales' second warmest, with a new provisional temperature record of 37.7C set in Lingwood, Norfolk, last month.
