Scotland could be set to bask in a heatwave as temperatures are expected to rise next week – but, sadly, not before another few days of heavy rain.
Forecasters are predicting temperatures above average in areas across the country next week with drier weather on the way throughout July.
Temperature could peak at 20C next week.
Before we enjoy the sunshine, however, Scotland could be hit with winds of up to 40mph.
Scattered showers are expected to break out by day through Wednesday to Friday in the west of Scotland.
These showers are expected to become heavier and more frequent on Thursday and Friday.
However, temperatures are expected to get warmer next week.
For next week the Met Office forecast states: “Looking further ahead, a north/ south split across the UK seems most likely. Northern and northwestern areas are expected to see further spells of rain, accompanied by strong winds, with the possibility of these spreading to some other areas at times.
“Further south however, there should be more in the way of dry weather, though even here, there is still the possibility of some showers, or longer spells of rain.”
For the following week, beginning Monday, July 20, the forecast says: “There should be plenty of dry, fine weather around, though there is still the risk of occasional bouts of rain and strong winds. Such spells are mostly likely across the north and west, but they could spread to other areas at times.
“Temperatures generally around average, with any periods of particularly warm weather most likely being short-lived.”
