Heatwave comes to an end as blustery showers threaten weekend washout for Britain

Heavy showers are threatening a weekend washout as Britain's mini-heatwave comes to a halt.

Temperatures peaked at 25C on Thursday it is likely to remain warm and sunny for a time before the rain arrives.

Weather maps show temperatures in the mid-teens on Monday, but will feel much cooler with winds gusting to almost 30mph and spells of much-needed rainfall, MirrorOnline reports.

Met Office forecaster Simon Partridge said the UK had already seen 81 per cent of its average sunshine for April at the start of this week, but just 17 per cent of its rain.

Forecaster Brain Glaze, of The Weather Outlook, said changes would start to be felt over the weekend. He said: "There will be long sunny periods but temperatures are likely to be a little lower. On Saturday afternoon showers bubble up in Wales and the south west.

"Sunday brings more warm sunshine to the south. In central and northern regions there will be showers and some of them turn heavy. It will be cooler in Scotland and over the mountains sleet or snow is possible.

"The cooler and showery conditions move southwards on Monday. Despite that there will be some sunny spells.

"Through the rest of next week mixed weather is expected as areas of low pressure push in from the Atlantic. All regions could see showers or longer spells of rain and daytime temperatures are forecast to be close to the seasonal average."
