THE Hunter's scorching temperatures have given way to winds, rain and storms.
According to Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Helen Kirkup the southerly that ripped through on Wednesday morning is expected to strengthen before the wind turns south easterly to push showers across the coast and slowly up the valley.
"We will possibly see 10 to 20 millimetres of rain throughout the day, and thunderstorms towards Scone and Barrington," she said.
"After the run of warm days where the air was dragged from the north west, it is not out of the ordinary to have a sudden change.
"The monsoon in the north is really active, this summer we will see some more wet weather."

While temperatures across Newcastle and the Hunter did reach heatwave status, the region did not break any temperature records.
In January the days were predominantly cooler than the heat of January 2020, which saw significant bushfire activity across the state.
