Campaigners fighting to stop an increase in night flights at Heathrow airport have won their battle - for now. The transport minister Derek Twigg said yesterday that following public consultation he would not raise the limit on flights at least until 2012.
Heathrow is owned by BAA, which yesterday reported that its British airports handled 12.4 million passengers last month, boosted by strong growth in flights to Europe and a late Easter. Numbers on domestic flights fell 1.3%. Stansted showed growth of more than 16%, Gatwick rose 12.5% and Heathrow was up 4.3% to 5.8 million.
