Heathrow-bound American Airlines flight diverted due to 'bad smell in the cabin'

A plane from Philadelphia heading to Heathrow was diverted due to an unpleasant odour on board.

The America Airlines flight landed in Boston after the smell was noticed in the cabin.

Ten crew members asked to be taken to hospital to be checked over and were all later released from care.

A statement from American Airlines said: “American Airlines flight 728 from Philadelphia to London Heathrow diverted to Boston Sunday evening after a possible odour was reported in the cabin.

“Ten of the 12 crew members asked to be transported to a local hospital for evaluation; all were later released. No customers experienced any issues.

“All 154 customers were provided with overnight accommodations in Boston, and will continue their journey to London today.”

The Airbus A330-300 aircraft landed in Boston at 11.48pm local time on Sunday.

American Airlines told the Standard its "maintenance team is looking into the issue" which caused the smell.

It said that flight attendants were seen by medical personnel and released, but gave no further details on what symptoms they were seen for.
