Flyers from Britain’s biggest airport should be able to board flights from this summer just by looking into a camera.
Facial recognition technology at Heathrow aims to do away with passport checks by border officials.
The £50million system requires travellers to scan their passport and have their picture taken at an automated kiosk.
Faces would be matched to the document and boarding details.
Aviation consultant Alex Macheras said: “Major American airports already have this. From the point of convenience it works.
“Customers, however, will have concerns about how data is protected.”
Gatwick Airport is also set to run a trial of the facial technology, The Times reported.
