Heathfield Primary in Ayr places pupils into isolation after coronavirus confirmed

An Ayr school has become the latest to be affected by coronavirus with a class placed in self-isolation.

Heathfield Primary is subject to a Test & Trace operation, with officials saying a "small number of individuals" are being contacted.

It becomes the eighth school in the region to be impacted by the ongoing spread of the virus.

Holmston and Coylton Primaries have already been affected along with Queen Margaret, Prestwick, Ayr, Kyle and Belmont Academies.

Lynne McNiven, NHS Joint Director of Public Health, said: "NHS Ayrshire & Arran’s Test & Protect team is conducting contact tracing within Heathfield Primary.

"A small number of individuals are being contacted by the Test and Protect team and told to self-isolate at home for 14 days.

"We appreciate this is a very worrying time.

"However, we would like to assure people that every measure is being taken to protect pupils and staff."
