Heather Small will be Moving On Up north to add to the attractions at County Durham's Oyster Festival

Champagne and oysters - and a helping of live music courtesy of Heather Small - will be served up at a County Durham festival this September, all in aid of charity.

The former M People singer is to be the star guest at the Oyster Festival set to take place at Hardwick Hall Hotel in Sedgefield.

And the annual event, now in its 16th year, promises to be a real treat with a mouth-watering menu featuring a three-course Fruits de Mer menu.

This will include dressed crab; Dublin Bay prawns; Scottish poached salmon and mussels and there will be oyster stalls as well as a champagne reception.

Small, who was leader singer in nineties dance music band M People - known for such hits as Moving On Up; Search for the Hero and One Night in Heaven - turned solo at the end of that decade and released her first solo album, Proud, in 2000.

Her long music career brought her to the North East last summer when she appeared at South Tyneside Summer Festival and the now-54-year-old will be back in the region to take a headline slot at the September 27 festival.

Also on the music line-up at the event - which will be raising money for The Angel Trust, a charity supporting those in need in Darlington and County Durham - will be Irish bands Emerald Thieves and JJ Galway.

Local entertainer Steve Walls will again act as compere and the entertainment will also feature an act by Durham comedian Josh Daniels.

The Oyster Festival will take place from noon until 6pm and the £150 tickets will also include a bottle of wine for each person as well as free Guinness, John Smiths and Heineken beer throughout the event.

John Adamson, owner of Hardwick Hall Hotel in County Durham , said: "The Oyster Festival is always a lot of fun and we have some fantastic acts taking to the stage, who are sure to get everyone on their feet and having a great time."

He added: "We are delighted to be raising money for The Angel Trust this year and we hope that our support will allow them to continue the amazing work they do in the local community."
