After trudging through the recent bout of woeful weather, commuters are being warmed from the bottom up for a bit of motivation to get them through the final week of the longest winter in four years (thanks to the leap year).
New British Gas research found almost two-thirds (65%) of people struggle to motivate themselves to get out of the door in winter compared with summer, which means almost half (47%) of commuters are twice as likely to be late for work this week.
Commuters arriving at Coulsdon South train station this week will be getting a boost – by finding themselves instead at “Warmsdon South”, where they’ll be boarding the train to No More Cold Bums, thanks to British Gas.
British Gas has installed a heated bench at the station to help prevent morning routines from going off the rails, giving commuters reprieve against the cold morning weather whilst they wait for their train. Commuters can also charge their devices on the bench and enjoy free Wi-Fi to fast-track their morning and keep it running on time.
With an extra day to endure this winter thanks to the leap year, British Gas is here to solve winter morning woes because the reluctance to leave the house in the cold and grey month has a real impact on the rest of our day. During the chilly season, almost a third (30%) of people are more likely to snooze their alarm compared with summer; making it no surprise that 45% will miss their regular transport connection, and 44% are twice as likely to be late dropping their children off at school/nursery.

More than half (53%) of the nation say the commute is the worst part of their morning routine, with the average British commute lasting 30 minutes. For those taking public transport, the average waiting time is 14.5 minutes which, in winter, is never welcome. In the last week of winter, the platform at Coulsdon South this week is set to drop to a frosty one degree Celsius.
The British Gas heated bench will be at Warmsdon South (Coulsdon South) train station on Monday, 24 and Tuesday, 25 February, operating from 6am-11am to help commuters’ bums stay warm in this biting weather.
