English allrounder Lewis Gregory has made an instant impact on his Big Bash League debut for Brisbane, claiming three wickets as Hobart made 7-148 against the Heat at the Gabba.
Gregory dismissed key Hurricanes' trio D'Arcy Short (27), Dawid Malan (15) and captain Peter Handscomb (7) with the winless Heat needing to score 149 to claim their first victory of the summer.
The 28-year-old, whose mandatory quarantine ended on Christmas Day, removed Short with just his third delivery in BBL cricket.
He then get rid of Malan and Handscomb with consecutive deliveries in his second over to leave the Hurricanes reeling at 4-66 midway through their innings.
Mark Steketee (2-36) was the only other multiple wicket-taker for the hosts, who are looking to make a winning start to life without superstar captain Chris Lynn, sidelined for up to six matches with a hamstring injury.
The innings was a disappointing one from the stacked Hurricanes' batting line-up, with Short's 27 the highest score after being sent in by stand-in Heat skipper Jimmy Peirson.
As well as Lynn, the Heat are without veteran paceman Ben Laughlin who left the team's COVID bubble to spend time with his family over Christmas.
The Heat have also included James Bazley for his debut while Gregory's English international teammate Malan and teenage legspinner Wil Parker are both playing their first games for the Hurricanes.
