Extreme heat has prompted soccer's hierarchy to postpone an A-League Women's match scheduled for Adelaide on Friday.

With temperatures in the South Australian capital forecast to reach 41C on Friday, Adelaide United's home fixture against Melbourne City has been shifted to Saturday.

The encounter had been due to start at 4.20pm ACDT (4.50pm AEDT), but will now be played from 4pm ACDT (4.30pm AEDT) on Saturday, when temperatures are predicted to reach a maximum of 32C.

The match was scheduled as the first in a Friday double-header, with an A-League Men's clash between the Reds and Macarthur to follow.

The men's game will go ahead, though kick-off has been pushed back by 30 minutes from its scheduled start time of 7.05pm ACDT (7.35pm AEDT).
