Heartwarming tributes for Cumnock's Jim 'Buller' Reid after death of 'one of life's good guys'

An Ayrshire legend has sadly died at the age of 72.

Cumnock's Jim ‘Buller’ Reid was well-known around the region – especially within the footballing community – for his incredibly witty after-dinner entertainment and support for charities.

He helped out at the likes of Cumnock Juniors and Ayr United events frequently, and he was Kilmarnock’s hospitality host for over 25 years.

Jim was also recognised for his time as a janitor with East Ayrshire Council, leaving a heartwarming impact on pupils and staff at every school he worked at.

Buller's death has left a huge hole in the Ayrshire community – and football clubs across the county have paid their own tribute.

A family tribute to Jim on Facebook read: “It’s with a heavy heart that we are telling you that Jim Buller Reid has passed away today, peacefully and surrounded by his family.

“Loved by his massive family and friend group, he will sadly be missed and never forgotten nor replaced.

“He would want us all to have a great Christmas and a happy new year and celebrate the life of the wonderful man, legend and hero he truly was.

“We as a family will always dedicate everything we ever do to his honour, and make him even prouder than he already was of us all.

“We love you more than you’ll ever know, the best man to ever walk this planet. Love you forever, Christmas up there will be amazing with him joining the party.”

Cumnock Juniors, a club Buller did a lot of work for over the years, said: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jim ‘Buller’ Reid.

“Buller was one of life’s good guys and will be missed sorely by everyone who was lucky enough to meet him. Our thoughts and prayers are with Jessie and all the family at this incredibly difficult time. RIP Buller.”

And Killie posted: “Everyone at Kilmarnock FC was saddened to learn of the passing of Jim ‘Buller’ Reid, who was a hospitality host at the club for over 25 years.

“Our thoughts are with his family and friends.”

Auchinleck Talbot also posted a touching tribute, adding: “Our good friend Buller Reid sadly passed away yesterday, condolences to Buller’s family from all at Auchinleck Talbot FC.

“The amount of charity work he completed in the district should not go unrecognised. Buller will be sadly missed by an awful lot of people. RIP Buller.”
