Heartwarming reason Scots husband is learning how to paint wife's nails

A Scots dad has learned how to do nails in a bid to help his wife who has primary progressive MS.

Neil Wilde, 44, has been brushing up on his skills by watching YouTube tutorials so he can help Sharon paint her nails when she can no longer do them herself.

Sharon, 47, was diagnosed with MS eight years ago and while she can still do most things for herself, as her condition gets worse she will increasingly lose her independence.

Primary progressive MS (PPMS) affects about 10-15 per cent of people diagnosed with MS.

It has this name because from the first symptoms it is progressive. Symptoms gradually get worse over time, rather than appearing as sudden relapses.

Neil explained Sharon often gets paint on her skin when she does her nails now and he wants to be able to help her in the future.

He said: "My wife is the love of my life, I would walk over hot coals for her."

Having spent 18 years in the army Neil is first to admit he's not arty but is finding it intriguing learning the new skill.

The Penicuik father-of-two, who now works at Ikea also hopes to do a nail technician course and is looking for guinea pigs to practice on.

He said: "I do think the nails I did for my wife look good, and I just need some practice before I sign up for a proper class.

"It's just about looking to the future a little bit, at the moment she can drive to school and is still working but she does struggle to walk 10 metres unaided."

For now Neil will continue to perfect his nails and support his wife and family in any way he can.
