Heartwarming moment man braves thin ice to rescue panicked deer from frozen lake

This is the heartwarming moment a man rescues a deer from a frozen lake.

The touching video shows an animal lover pushing the doe along the ice until she reaches the edge and manages scramble to safety.

Gil Lancour, from Cranmore, Wisconsin, US, spotted the creature while driving home for lunch on Tuesday.

Mr Lancour immediately pulled over and walked across the ice, before sitting next to the panicked animal to calm her down.

He called his boss who quickly rushed to the scene and filmed Mr Lancour as he pushed the deer off the ice.

In the clip the animal can be seen lying flat until she reaches the side of the lake - at which point she jumps up and runs for land.

Despite scrambling around on the ice, she finally finds her footing and manages to make it to safety, WAOW reports.

It comes just a year after a man skating on his lunch break rescued a family of deer after noticing they were stranded on a frozen lake.

Ryan Peterson, from Ontario, Canada, said he had to act fast and decided to take action as soon as he realised the danger for the animals.

He said: "I went back to work and grabbed some rope.

"The ice was still too thin for any kind of vehicle, so skating was the only option."

Video taken on December 3 last year shows all three deer splaying on ice in the middle of Lake of the Woods near Kenora, northern Ontario.
