Heartwarming moment girl, 2, takes her first steps after fears she'd never walk

This is the heartwarming moment a two-year-old girl took her first steps after her family was told she may never be able to walk.

Little Keira Hockley manages to walk unaided to her joyful mum Danielle in the adorable clip.

The toddler, who turns three next month, takes several confident strides through the family's kitchen and into the living room in Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia.

Sharing the footage on Facebook , Danielle wrote: "OMG this just happened!

"I can’t believe it!"

Keira was diagnosed with congenital cytomegalovirus after nine months.

The rare infection is passed on from mother to the foetus via the placenta. It's estimated around one baby in every 100 will be born with it.

Keira was born deaf, autistic and has development challenges.

But speaking after she shared the video this week, Ms Hockley said: "It’s been two years in the making."

"But now, I’m over the moon."

"I did a heap of research which in hindsight was a bad idea."
