Heartwarming moment Dublin man rescues newly hatched swan chick from drain

This is the heartwarming moment a Dublin man rescued a newly hatched swan cygnet that had fallen into a drain.

The baby swan and its siblings were hatched over the weekend in the lakelands of Terenure College, in Dublin.

And during the cygnets first few days out of the nest one found itself trapped in a drain beside the lake it was hatched in.

The swan was filmed calling out to its family in the waters above where its family floated above.

Luckily, local lad Josh Wiler was nearby to help the swan to safety.

Josh hopped a fence and climbed down into the drain in pursuit of the bird.

He herded the scared cygnet into the corner of the drain before carefully lifting it up to the waters above.

The mother and father swan along with its siblings quickly swam over the comfort the rescued cygnet.

Josh climbed out of the drain to cheers from the small crowd that gathered to watch the rescue operation.

The footage was filmed by Marie Nolan who had been watching the swan nesting for weeks.

Nolan had been posting photos of the swans on her Instagram as the cygnets began to hatch and leave the nest.

Her video of the rescue effort has been viewed thousands of times online with viewers delighted with the positive ending.
