Hearts v Hibs referee revealed as Nick Walsh handed first Edinburgh derby

Nick Walsh will take charge of the first Edinburgh derby of the season on Sunday.

The whistler will be the man in the middle when Hearts host Hibs live on Sky Sports at midday.

It's the first time Walsh has been handed the responsibility of refereeing the capital city's derby and just his third Premiership match of the season.

He has been involved in European games a lot this campaign and has dished out 25 yellows and three reds so far this season across eight games.

He does have derby experience though having reffed the final Old Firm derby of last season.

He was praised for his performance as Rangers ran out 4-1 winners with Callum McGregor sent off for Celtic.

He last refereed Hearts back in February in a 1-1 draw with Inverness Caley Thistle, while his last Hibs game was the Scottish Cup Final defeat to St Johnstone.

Five of Walsh’s games this season have ended in draws, with the last four all being 1-1.

Robbie Neilson and Jack Ross will take their sides into the game knowing they are the only two sides in the top flight with an unbeaten record so far.

They both currently sit one point ahead of Rangers at the top of the table.
