Hearts v Ayr United player ratings as Craig Wighton makes the difference off the bench

It took them falling behind in the second half to really click into gear, but Hearts racked up the goals again.

It was six against Queen of the South two weeks ago and they put five past Ayr United today in the Scottish Championship, although the visitors managed three of their own.

Here's how Robbie Neilson's men rated on a stormy afternoon at Tynecastle.

Craig Gordon: Little chance with either of the first two goals but was at fault for the third. 6

Michael Smith: Solid enough and was unlucky not score a screamer in the first half. 6

Craig Halkett: Didn't match his performance levels from Hampden last week. 6

Christophe Berra: Dominated aerially and made Hearts' equaliser with some great play down the left. 7

Stephen Kingsley: Fortunate with his free-kick and was caught out for Ayr's second. 6

Andy Halliday: Battled well and tried to get Heats going forward a bit quicker. 6

Andy Irving: Passing excellent again as he took control of midfield at times. 7

Olly Lee: Got forward well and came up with an important goal. 7

Jordan Roberts: Didn't happen for the winger, who had as many bad touches as he did good before being replaced. 5

Elliott Frear: Didn't have much impact. Should have done better with an early chance. 5

Liam Boyce: Poor first half but got his goal in the second to continue his scoring run. 7

Subs

Steven Naismith: Added a sense of urgency when it was most needed. 5

Craig Wighton: Changed the game for the hosts with two goals and an assist off the bench. 8

Peter Haring: Came on and kept it simple enough. 4
