Hearts Tynecastle friendlies sanctioned as joint response group gives go ahead for closed door games

Hearts have been given permission to host behind closed doors friendlies against lower league opposition at Tynecastle ahead of their Championship campaign.

The Gorgie side have so far been restricted to bounce games against Premier League duo Burnley and Sheffield United and a runout at St Mirren as Robbie Neilson looks to ready his charges for the new season.

However, the SFA/SPFL joint response group has now sanctioned the club to begin matches against sides who are not regularly testing players for COVID-19 at their Tynecastle home.

Previously, club could only organise games against other teams screening players for the virus - effectively meaning 30 of Scotland's clubs were ineligible to take part in warm up games.

That ruling has now been relaxed despite the recent surge in cases that saw more than 200 people across the country test positive for the condition on Sunday.

According to The Scotsman , Hearts intend to organise games with sides from Leagues One and Two ahead of their Betfred Cup campaign getting underway on October 6.

An intra-squad friendly last week saw the Hearts (home) side beat the Hearts (away) side 3-2 in the first game played in Gorgie since March.

Hearts face Inverness Caledonian Thistle in their opening game before kicking off the Championship season at home to Dundee on October 17.
