Hearts transfer news as loan star pens Tynecastle extension

Hearts have agreed with Livingston to extend keeper Ross Stewart's deal at Tynecastle.

The 25-year-old joined the Jambos in the summer on a six-month short term deal as back up to Craig Gordon.

But the goalie has now penned an extension that will keep him at the club until the end of the season.

Stewart made his Hearts debut in a 3-1 Betfred Cup win over Raith Rovers in October and featured again in their 3-2 victory over East Fife.

He has provided competition with Gordon in between the sticks as Hearts look to push for promotion to the Premiership during the second half of the season.

Meanwhile, Hearts have offered Andy Irving a new contract as he continues his impressive season.

Robbie Neilson hopes to tie the youngster down on a long-term deal, but admitted there's still some back and forth to happen before it's signed and sealed.

He said: "We've offered Andy a contract.

“He's come back, there's been a counter offer so we'll go back again. We'd like to try and get that over the line. We've been talking for a number of weeks. Andy has been playing very well for us and we'd like to try and get him here for as long as possible.”

Hearts are also keen to sign Josh Ginnelly on a permanent deal after his Preston contract runs out in the summer.

Neilson added: "We've just started speaking to his agent. We will continue talking to try and get things moving.

"He's got blistering pace which a lot of teams in Scotland can't handle. Over the last 18 months he has struggled with niggling injuries. We believe with the sports science and medical staff here we can give him the best opportunity to play every week. We just want to get him on the pitch on a Saturday now.

"He is enjoying his time at the club and he likes it here. He likes the stadium and the training facilities. He hasn't experienced a full Tynecastle yet, which he is desperate to do.

"I think both parties are keen to get something done so I don't see there being too many issues on it."
