Hearts transfer latest as former Doncaster defender to begin Jambos trial after horror injury

Joe Wright is set to come into Hearts training upon their return from their Spanish pre-season camp, according to reports.

The former Doncaster defender has been without a club since 2021 after injuring both his ankle and knee in his final game for Rovers. He had agreed to sign for Hearts last summer before the horrible injury he picked up during his Doncaster encore scuppered the move and ended his 21/22 term before it had even started. He's now desperate to prove his fitness and get his career back on track.

Tynecastle boss Robbie Neilson will welcome him into senior training this month, according to the Edinburgh Evening News, with Hearts currently in the market for another centre-back. They won’t consider any move to bring Wright on board permanently 'unless absolutely certain he would enhance their defence.' They've already added Kye Rowles, Alex Cochrane and Lewis Neilson to their back line.

Alan Forrest and Jorge Grant have bolstered Neilson's men in the final third area ahead of this term's Premiership and European efforts.

He is also in the hunt for Wolves midfielder Connor Ronan but a permanent transfer fee of £500k is proving an obstacle.

They return to Scotland shortly to continue their pre-season preparations ahead of their league opener against Ross County later this month.
