Craig Levein is targeting a midfielder with Peter Haring facing a spell on the sidelines due to a groin injury.
But the Hearts boss has ruled out a move for Scotland international James Morrison who is a free agent after leaving West Brom.
Morrison had been linked with the Jambos, Hibs and Aberdeen over the weekend. But asked if a move was in the offing for the 33-year-old Levein gave an emphatic "no" this morning.
Haring is facing an unknown period of time on the sidelines as he prepares to visit a specialist for a second opinion on his groin problem.

And Levein , looking ahead ot Tuesday's Betfred Cup clash with Cowdenbeath, said: "I will bring in another midfielder.
"How vital is it? It's not so vital that I need to do it before tomorrow night.
"I'm going to take a little bit of time and make sure we get the right person. But I will bring another midfield player in."
On Haring's injury the Hearts boss added: "We've had one opinion and we're waiting on a second one.
"We're pretty sure that we know what the problem is but we want to be certain."
