Hearts to play Glenavon in pre-season friendly as part of anniversary celebrations

Hearts will play Northern Irish Premiership side Glenavon in a friendly on Saturday 6 July.

The game will from part of the Mourneview Park side’s 130 anniversary celebrations.

The club are based in Lurgan, around 25 miles from Belfast.

It is understood to be part of the deal that took Bobby Burns to Tynecastle last summer. The Northern Irish left back made his first league start for the Jambos in the recent Edinburgh derby against Hibs, and also played the full match in last weekend’s Scottish Cup semi-final win over Inverness.

Michael Smith is likely to be the other Northern Irish international joining Burns in the Hearts squad for the trip to his former club, while assistant manager Austin MacPhee combines his role at Hearts with the same job within the Northern Irish set up as second in command in Michael O’Neill.
