Hearts team news v Peterhead revealed as Robbie Neilson hands debut to Alex Cochrane

Hearts boss Robbie Neilson has selected his team to face Peterhead in the opening game of the season.

The Tynecastle side begin their Premier Sports Cup campaign against the League Two opposition and have gone for a strong side.

New skipper Craig Gordon starts in goals and he'll be looking to get off to a flyer in the role full time after a strong pre-season for the Jambos.

Hearts have handed a debut to Alex Cochrane while Josh Ginnelly makes his first appearance as a permanent Hearts player.

It looks like back five from the visitors with Michael Smith and Cochrane as the wing backs and John Souttar, Craig Halkett and Stephen Kingsley in the back line.

The midfield sees Peter Haring and Aaron McEneff start and it's an exciting front three with Gary Mackay-Steven and Josh Ginnelly either side of Liam Boyce.

It's a strong subs bench with Andy Halliday, Jamie Walker and Loic Damour all involved.

Gordon, Smith, Souttar, Halkett, Kingsley, Cochrane, McEneff, Haring, Mackay-Steven, Boyce, Ginnelly

Subs: Stewart, Walker, Halliday, Roberts, Henderson, McGill, Popescu, Damour, Pollock
