Hearts team news v Ayr United as Robbie Neilson starts new signing Alex Cochrane in Largs

Robbie Neilson has named a strong starting XI for this afternoon's friendly against Ayr United as the Jambos ramp up their pre-season preparations.

Hearts ran out 6-0 win over Linlithgow Rose last weekend with a double from Liam Boyce, plus goals from Michael Smith, Armand Gnanduillet, Mackenzie Kirk and Finlay Pollock.

Neilson 's men followed that up 11 goals and two separate victories on Tuesday evening, with two different XIs taking on Civil Service Strollers 6pm and Spartans at Ainslie Park at 8pm.

And ahead of today's behind-closed-doors friendly against David Hopkin's Honest Men at Largs, Neilson has named what could be considered just about his full-strength starting side, with John Souttar, Craig Halkett, Liam Boyce and Finlay Pollock all given the nod to start, with new signing Alex Cochrane starting at left-back:

After this afternoon's match, Hearts continue their pre-season programme on Saturday against Falkirk, ahead of their first Premier Sports Cup match away to Peterhead on July 10.
