Hearts suffer pre-season defeat to Sheffield United as ex Rangers man John Fleck nets the only goal

Hearts were narrowly beaten by English Premier League side Sheffield United in a closed-door friendly in Edinburgh this afternoon.

Robbie Neilson gave Jordan Roberts and Elliott Frear game-time, while Olly Lee was also involved having returned from his season-long loan at Gillingham. Ross Stewart enjoyed his first outing in goals and Aaron Hickey also played 45-minutes in the match.

The Jambos went behind early when former Rangers midfielder John Fleck netted for the Blades, and Neilson's men were unable to find an equaliser.

Hearts started as follows: Zlamal, Smith, White, Halkett, Damour, Hickey, Walker, Lee, Moore, Roberts, Boyce.

Subs: Stewart, Wighton, Garuccio, Brandon, Irving, Henderson, Hamilton, Frear, McGill, C. Smith, Denholm.
