Hearts striker Liam Boyce a fitness doubt for Scottish Cup clash with Rangers

Hearts are hopeful striker Liam Boyce will have recovered from illness in time for Saturday’s Scottish Cup quarter-final against Rangers.

The Northern Ireland international had been struggling with a back injury following Hearts’ 5-0 defeat at Celtic Park and looked to be feeling the effects towards the end of their 2-2 draw against Hamilton.

He was also a doubt for the scheduled trip to St Mirren last Friday night, which ended up being a wash out as the weather meant the game was postponed.

Boyce sat out training at the start of this week after contracting a bout of tonsillitis, but it’s hoped his continued improvement will see him in contention to face the Light Blues after a stunning debut against the same opponents a few weeks ago.

Boyce set up the equaliser and bagged a dramatic late winner on his Hearts bow when Rangers lost 2-1 in Gorgie a month ago.
