Hearts stars Steven Naismith and John Souttar reveal secret hobby as duo talk about love for coffee

Robbie Neilson's Hearts side were full of energy in their opening day Dundee demolition last Friday – and we're beginning to understand why.

Steven Naismith and John Souttar could be responsible for a growing "coffee culture" in the Tynecastle changing room.

The Scotland internationals spent their Wednesday afternoon indulging in a spot of 'latte art' at the Riverhill Coffee Bar in Glasgow after revealing themselves to be coffee experts.

Naismith and Souttar both went along as part of the ongoing Glasgow Coffee Festival, and served up hot beverages to delighted customers.

Speaking to our sister title Glasgow Live, Souttar revealed he's actually planning to open his own roastery with a few friends.

He said: "The last two or three years I've been into coffee. During lockdown me and a few mates started speaking about it.

"We did a few courses and now we're opening our own coffee roastery up north."

Naismith first got into coffee during his spell with Norwich City, and even took some brewing lessons in a local coffee shop and roastery.

"When I moved down south, my wife had her baby so she came back to Scotland. I was down in Norwich on my own and I got quite pally with a guy who had a coffee shop.

"They were great and I managed to get in there when they were shut to get lessons. I just love coffee so it came about through that.

"Since I've moved back to Scotland I've gotten to know a lot of places in Glasgow and Edinburgh."

When asked if there was a coffee culture in the Hearts dressing room, he added: "There is. We've got a few Australians who love their coffee, but the boys are at different stages of getting to know about coffee.

"It's always a good way to socialise, learn and debate, I suppose."
