Hearts stars 'ask Ann Budge to reconsider wage cut' as Tynecastle chief faces 'widespread resistance'

Hearts players have reportedly asked Ann Budge to reconsider slashing their wages.

The Tynecastle club offered all staff the an ultimatum to accept a 50 per cent salary cut or face the prospect of mass redudancies amid the growing coronavirus crisis.

Record Sport revealed this week how manager Daniel Stendel has offered to work for free, while Craig Levein and Austin MacPhee have accepted the measure.

But The Daily Mail report a number of first-team players are unhappy with the size of the cut and the way in which the grim news was delivered.

It's said they have taken counsel from PFA Scotland, who have advised they do not rush into any agreement.

Some players are believed to have accepted the measure, but it's claimed Budge has encountered "widespread resistance" to apply it across the board.

MacPhee and Levein, meanwhile, have been sharing the sporting director's role since the latter's sacking from the manager's position earlier this season, and are willing to continue under the 50 per cent reduction.

Defender Clevid Dikomona, revealed on Friday he'd taken the option to end his contract and has returned to France to be with his family.

But the 29-year-old, whose deal is due to expire on May 31, says he would be willing to return to Hearts next season.

“I have indicated I am ready to re-sign a contract with the club as soon as the situation will be clear and especially if the club wishes to make me a new contractual proposal,” he said.
