Hearts star forced to self isolate as club reveal coronavirus precaution

Hearts have revealed an unnamed player has self-isolated after developing coronavirus-like symptoms.

The club have announced the player will remain in quarantine for seven days as per UK government guidelines.

The footballer becomes the first Premiership star to take the precautionary measure after domestic football was suspended on Friday.

Unnamed Inverness Caley Thistle and Stenhousemuir players have also self-isolated over the past 24 hours.

Hearts have opted not to name the individual in question.

A club spokesperson said: "After developing a cough, a player followed the new UK Government guidelines and started a seven-day period of self isolation as a precautionary measure."

It follows Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi testing positive for the disease.

Arteta's positive test proved the catalyst for the Premier League to shut down until at least April 3.

The former Rangers midfielder is said to be "feeling better already" following his diagnosis.
