Hearts star Barrie McKay tipped for Scotland call-up with 'form and quality' highlighted

Hearts star Andy Halliday reckons team-mate Barrie McKay deserves a Scotland call-up.

The former Rangers winger has been nothing short of sensational since hooking up with Robbie Neilson's side. He was recently rewarded with a new contract due to his form in the capital and he showed his class once more with a lovely piece of play in the Edinburgh derby against Hibs to set up Lawrence Shankland for his first goal for the club.

It's set to be a big season in Gorgie with Hearts discovering whether they will face Linfield or FC Zurich in the Europa League play-off round later this evening. They have the added cushion of knowing that at minimum they will play Europa Conference League group stage football this season with a guarantee of eight European games.. The Jambos finished third behind Celtic and Rangers last term and reached the Scottish Cup Final and to achieve similar success this time around and impress in Europe, McKay will be one of the key men to make it happen.

Halliday - who like McKay was also on the books at Ibrox - reckons he must be chapping on the door for a spot in Steve Clarke's squad. The next international break is next month with a Nations League triple-header on the cards.

Speaking on behalf of Grosvenor Sport, Halliday said: "For me, Barrie McKay's form and quality deserves a call-up and he must be really close to knocking at the door.

"Glenn Middleton has a lot of quality and he's off to a great start but the Scotland squad is the strongest it's ever been and it'll be very difficult to break into and I think he's got a little way to go yet."
