Hearts set deadline for Championship trophy decision as Craig Halkett drops hint

Hearts will decide on Friday if they will lift the Championship trophy after their clash against Inverness.

Fans launched a campaign calling on the players not to celebrate their title win as they still feel the Tynecastle club were unjustly relegated last term.

The Jambos were controversially demoted after they were sitting bottom of the Premiership when the season was curtailed due to the coronavirus.

And that anger still lingers with some supporters as they urged the players to not go up and receive their medals on Saturday.

Craig Halkett says the squad will come to a decision on Friday, but hinted the Hearts players will lift the trophy out of respect for the other teams in the league.

He said: "We will sit down to discuss and get everyone's thoughts on it.

"I think it's about being respectful of other teams in the league who have been fighting for the Championship all season.

"There are a few other factors, with boys in the team who have never won a medal, have a chance to lift the trophy and might not again.

"I think its a decision for the boys to come to together and see where it goes."
