Hearts return to Covid testing this week after recent cases ruled two players out

Hearts will return to testing their players for Covid this week.

The Tynecastle club began the season testing every week despite it not being a requirement for Championship clubs.

That stopped as the season progressed, but after two players contracted coronavirus in recent weeks, the club have confirmed they will test their squad this week.

Josh Ginnelly missed the games against Ayr United, Arbroath and Dundee after testing positive, while another unnamed player also showed up positive ahead of the Dens Park clash.

It’s expected Ginnelly will be available for this Saturday’s Scottish Cup second round tie against either Camelon Juniors or Brora Rangers (if it goes ahead).

As a precaution, all other Hearts players will be tested ahead of the tie, with next Tuesday’s top of the table clash against Dunfermline a priority for Robbie Neilson.

Whether testing will continue on a regular basis remains to be seen, with none of Hearts’ second tier rivals doing so.
