Hearts pursue permanent Alex Cochrane deal but move depends on Brighton's plans for loanee

Hearts are hoping to sign Alex Cochrane on a permanent deal but will need to wait to discover Brighton's long-term plans for the loanee.

The 21-year-old has impressed at Tynecastle this season, making the left wingback role his own as the Scottish Premiership's third placed side.

Cochrane joined on a season-long loan from the English Premier League team in the summer transfer window, scoring two goals and assisting two in 16 appearances so far.

His contract with parent club Brighton runs out next year and Hearts are keen on making him a permanent addition, as reported by the Edinburgh Evening News.

That said, it is unclear whether Graham Potter's side will extend his contract.

If offered a deal, he is expected to return to England and try to force his way into the Brighton team.

But he would also have to weigh up his chances of first-team appearances though, with stiff competition for places at the Seagulls.
