Hearts player ratings as Liam Boyce rescues point with late penalty at Queen of the South

Hearts got away with a sloppy display against Queen of the South to leave Palmerston with a 1-1- draw.

It increases their lead at the top of the Championship by a point thanks to Liam Boyce's late penalty, but Robbie Neilson will demand much, much better form his players next time out.

Here's how Hearts rated out of ten.

Craig Gordon: Nothing to do bar pick the ball out of the net. 6

Michael Smith: Slowed play down, touch was off and passed back the way far too often. 5

Craig Halkett: More stable than Popescu but not at his best. 5

Mihai Popescu: Sloppy in possession, tackling nowehere to be seen and far too hesitant. 4

Stephen Kingsley: Similar to Smith, gave up possession far too often and took the wrong option. 4

Andy Halliday: A passenger for most of the first half, put in one decent delivery from a free-kick but nowhere near good enough. 4

Andy Irving: Poorest game for a while. Passes not penetrating enough and forced Neilson's hand with a cynical booking. 5

Gervane Kastaneer: Tried to take his man on but got very little change out of Maxwell and got sloppy as the game went on. 5

Jamie Walker: Unlucky with a shot in the first half but didn't produce nearly enough aside form that. 5

Gary Mackay-Steven: Really poor. Gave the ball away consistently and final ball was non-existent. 4

Liam Boyce: Best player in maroon and was doing it on his own up front most of the time. Held the ball well, won the penalty and thumped it home. 7

Subs

Aaron McEneff: Made a difference. Injected a bit of energy and was positive with his passing. 5

Euan Henderson: Didn't do much to change things after coming on. 3

Steven Naismith: Clever touch led to the late penalty. 4
