Hearts' new signings and youngsters have increased team's creativity says Craig Levein

Craig Levein believes Hearts have added more creativity already this season – thanks to a combination of new additions and youngsters stepping up.

Jamie Walker and Conor Washington are the new faces at the top end of the pitch, while Anthony McDonald and Dario Zanatta have featured in wide areas.

A criticism of last season’s displays was that Levein’s team too often didn’t look like scoring enough goals.

However, With Jake Mulraney rested for last night’s victory at Cowdenbeath, Callumn Morrison to regain fitness and Steven Naismith expected to finally sign in a couple of weeks, the Jambos are looking well served with players who can create chances.

“We’ve played two competitive matches and the signs for me are good,” he told Hearts TV. “We have more creativity in the team.

“That’s down to the players we’ve brought in and also the emergence of some of the younger players.

“I thought Dario [Zanatta] and Anthony [McDonald] were really potent against Cowdenbeath. They created lots of things for us and Anthony scored, which was good.

“We won 2-0 but if we’d won 4-0 I’d have been going away a bit happier but all in all it was a good night’s work.”

Levein was also impressed with the Hearts support that traveled to Fife, who he believes have left the two Betfred Cup matches for far relatively pleased with their team’s performance.

“We had a great crowd there supporting us last night,” he said. “Like the other day, I think they were quite happy with the performance.

“I think they would have liked more goals as well but they saw some good performances over the two games so hopefully we can continue that next week.”
