Hearts' new dressing room was scaled down after the original was deemed too big

The original design for Hearts’ new dressing room was too big to give a team talk according to the football department, says owner Ann Budge.

The new Main Stand tunnel and changing areas were used for the first time ahead of last Friday night’s Betfred Cup Group A opener against Dundee United.

Quotes from Hearts players of years gone by and graphics have been painted on both the tunnel walls and above the players’ changing stations inside the dressing room, which features an indoor warm up area off to the side.

The new dressing room is certainly spacious, but has been scaled down from the original plans after Craig Levein and skipper Christophe Berra said it was too big in order to give an effective teamtalk.

Ann Budge revealed the plans were then changed to reduce the size.

“We had an original design, showed it to the football department who said the changing room was far too big and how could we have a team talk in a room that size.

"So we went back to the drawing board and got it all done again,” she explained.

“It was then signed off by everyone. Christophe as captain has had his tuppence worth too re the decoration and the likes.

"We had it signed off by the medics and Gordon the kit man, to make sure everything was in the right palace and now it’s finished it looks fantastic.”
