Hearts net five-figure sell on fee as Callum Paterson swaps Cardiff City for Sheffield Wednesday

Hearts have secured a five-figure sell on fee from Callum Paterson's move to Sheffield Wednesday after the Scotland international secured a move to Yorkshire from Cardiff City.

The Owls have paid a £500,000 transfer fee to the Welsh club for Scotland international Paterson following a three-year stay at the Bluebirds.

And the Jambos will receive a boost to the club coffers believed to be around £75,000 at their former academy product's request when he swapped the Scottish capital for its Welsh equivalent in 2017.

The 25-year-old stated he wanted a 15 per cent sell on fee added to the £400,000 worth of solidarity contributions owed to the Tynecastle outfit when Paterson joined the club.

That has now born fruit, with Ann Budge topping up the Tynecastle transfer budget thanks to the deal.

Paterson played more than 100 times for Cardiff in both the Championship and Premier League - being deployed in a variety of positions by Neil Warnock and Neil Harris.

He joins up with Garry Monk's side in a perilous position at the foot of the English second tier on -8 points after a 12-point deduction was imposed in pre-season.

The Hillsborough club have already started eating into that deficit, picking up four points from their opening three games.

Paterson made 158 appearances for the Tynecastle club after coming through the youth academy at Riccarton and helped the side return to the Premiership at the first time of asking in 2015.
