Hearts ‘move’ for Jarrad Branthwaite as Robbie Neilson targets Everton kid on loan

Hearts have launched a bid to sign Everton youngster Jarrad Branthwaite on loan, according to a report.

The centre back was wanted by Rangers prior to his move to Goodison Park and spent the second half of last season out on loan at Blackburn Rovers.

He's made just five appearances for Everton since joining from Carlisle but is very highly-rated within Everton.

And now the Daily Mail report that Robbie Neilson wants to bring him to Tynecastle to continue strengthening the Hearts defence.

Hearts have already signed Taylor Moore this week but want to add another centre back before the deadline with Neilson really having just four recognised centre backs.

The new formation of 3-4-3 results in Moore being the only recognised back-up with Mihai Popescu told he can leave the club on a free.

The 19-year-old made the breakthrough at Carlisle and immediately attracted interest from bigger clubs.

Steven Gerrard and Rangers were one of those who wanted him but he decided to go to Everton for an undisclosed fee.

He’s also played in both full back positions, having made his debut as a substitute for Leighton Baines.
