Hearts morning transfer headlines including Aaron Hickey 'bid', Championship start date and reconstruction chances

Levein says he would’ve kept Hearts off the bottom

It looks like Hearts will be condemned to the Championship for next season after all, but Craig Levein insists he would’ve kept them off the bottom of the Premiership had he stayed in charge.

The former manager and director of football was removed form both roles last November before being replaced by Daniel Stendel.

But the former Scotland boss is adamant he wouldn’t have had Hearts bottom of the league after 30 games if he’d been kept on.

Lazio ‘bid’ for Hickey

The teenage left back reportedly has a number of clubs across Europe monitoring his situation as he enters the final year of his contract.

Hickey is one of the more likely departures from Tynecastle this summer and the Jambos would be wise to cash in rather than losing him for nothing in a year’s time.

But they likely won’t be accepting the reported bid from the Serie A outfit. Italian newspaper Il Messaggero claims the Rome outfit offered just £89,000 for the Scotland U19 international.

Hearts facing 13 game home season

Hearts fans will likely have less trips to Tynecastle to make next season with the Championship set to start on 17 October.

The Daily Mail reports that the second tier sides have agreed the provisional start date, which would see them play each other three times rather than four, meaning just 13 home matches for each side.

Reconstruction doomed to fail

SPFL clubs were asked to email their position on Ann Budge’s proposed league reconstruction plan, but that’s set to fail according to the Times.

It had been hoped that an agreement could be reached that would reverse the Jambos’ relegation to the Championship, but it now seems as if the only option left is a legal challenge, which Budge has confirmed she intends to pursue.
