Hearts make Covid vaccine passport spot check call as Scottish Government trial run plans rubber stamped

Hearts have confirmed they will press ahead with their Covid-19 vaccine passport trial before their clash with Motherwell - but WON’T turn away anyone who’s not compliant.

The Jambos are expecting a near capacity crowd for the third v fourth battle at Tynecastle and home and away fans will be spot checked for proof of double vaccination on arrival at the stadium.

But Hearts have confirmed nobody will be turned away if they fail to produce the relevant documents as part of the trial run.

Earlier Aberdeen confirmed their decision to scrap the passport entry for their clash with Celtic on Sunday after a major problem with Scotland’s Covid vaccine app - which has caused issues in fans getting their validations.

But despite encountering the same problems Hearts will go ahead with the trial - two weeks before the passport spot checks become mandatory.

A statement from Gorgie said: “While the Scottish Government have confirmed the rule will not be enforced until 18 October, we are to use the grace period 'to test, adapt and build confidence in the practical arrangements'.

"As such, tomorrow’s cinch Premiership fixture against Motherwell will see us trial the new arrangements and all supporters will be admitted to Tynecastle, regardless of whether they have proof of vaccination or not.

“The trial run will enable us to gather data and supporter feedback with a view to minimising disruption once the grace period ends on October 18th.

“The scheme will be fully implemented from October 18th onwards and from that point forward, any person failing to prove their vaccine certification or exemption status will, in compliance with the law, unfortunately be refused entry.”
