Hearts loanee explains battle with Jambos teammates as Airdrie urged to keep applying Cove Rangers 'pressure' factor

He was keen to battle against those he shares a changing room with at Hearts - but Scott McGill says the main thing from Airdrie's trip to East Fife was building pressure on Cove Rangers.

The Jambos loanee was an impressive performer as Calum Gallagher goals either side of half-time sealed a 2-0 League One win at Bayview for the Diamonds.

On the opposing side, Hearts youngsters Finlay Pollock and Leo Watson were facing off against their midfield teammate in the Tynecastle youth system.

McGill says he spoke to Pollock before the game, but the objective didn't change with Ian Murray's men keen to make it 16 league games without a loss.

A tussle with friends did highlight the importance of his Lanarkshire loan: "There's a couple of Hearts boys in the East Fife team! But it was good to have that battle.

"I spoke to him during the week about it and I kept it simple on the pitch. It's great. That is why we are out on loan, to get those minutes and to get experience. We will just be focusing on ourselves and taking it one game at a time.

"Hopefully we can go all the way as a team now. We have lots of experienced players in our changing room."

McGill's adopted team cut the gap on league leaders Cove Rangers to two points ahead of their game with Queen's Park today. Second-placed Airdrie have four games to go and the 20-year-old is keen to take things down to the wire.

He added: "We are keeping it going. We need that momentum to keep the pressure on Cove and that's what we did on Saturday with another three points.

"We just need to keep applying that and keeping our confidence high. That will help us put the pressure on Cove.

"We have loads of good players in the team. Hopefully Cove drop some points."
