Hearts injury blow ahead of Celtic clash as Steven Naismith and John Souttar set to miss out

Hearts will have to try and overcome Celtic on Sunday without key duo Steven Naismith and John Souttar.

Craig Levein ruled both players out of the trip to face the champions - but revealed new signing Glenn Whelan will play some part in the match.

Naismith is nursing a hamstring injury which kept him out of last week's Betfred Cup win over Motherwell.

Souttar hasn't featured since limping out of the opening day Premiership defeat to Aberdeen three weeks ago.

It means Levein will likely go with Craig Halkett alongside Christophe Berra again in the centre of defence while Conor Washington could lead the line.

Vastly experienced Ireland international Whelan could come into the midfield for the Jambos two weeks after sealing a free transfer to Tynecastle after leaving Aston Villa.

The 86-times capped midfielder is one of seven summer arrivals at Hearts .
