'Hearts in pieces' as Glasgow schoolgirl knocked down and killed named by police

Heartbroken family and friends of a Glasgow teenager who died after being hit by a car on Great Western Road have paid tribute to her.

The 16-year-old has been named as Sophie Geddes and has been described as "the most caring girl" following her death at the weekend.

The tragedy unfolded when the popular schoolgirl was knocked down at 7.45pm on Saturday night.

She was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, but could not be saved and passed away a short time later.

Family and friends have taken to social media to speak of their loss, the Daily Record reports.

One heartbroken relative said: "My perfect big cousin, taken far too soon. Fly high my gorgeous."

And a friend wrote: "My heart is in pieces. Never in a million years I thought I'd be writing about one of the girls, losing their precious life.

"Sophie was the weirdest, funniest, caring and amazing girl."

Another friend said: "RIP Soph. Fly high angel. Love you forever."

And a third wrote: "Taken far too soon Soph, you were one in a million."

Video montage tributes appeared for the teenager on social media over the weekend.

A section of the road was closed off following the crash as the police investigation continued.

They appealed for witnesses to come forward or drivers with dashcam footage who were in the area at the time.
