Hearts in Marius Zaliukas tribute as they make home shirt donation vow

Hearts will donate money to MND Scotland and the MND Association with every home shirt sold this season.

The Tynecastle club have made the vow ahead of their launch of their new kit as they paid tribute to their former captain Marius Zaliukas.

The 2012 Scottish Cup winning skipper tragically passed away from the illness in October last year in shock news that left the footballing world devastated.

The former Hearts and Rangers defender was held in high regard throughout the Scottish game with tributes being paid to them by fans and team-mates throughout the country.

And now the club will donate money for each home shirt that is sold this season, and supporters are delighted with their club for doing so.

A tweet from the club said: “In 2020, our legendary captain, Marius Zaliukas, tragically lost his life to Motor Neurone Disease.

“For every home kit sold, the club will make a donation to MND Scotland and MND Association.”

Zaliukas spent seven years at Hearts after initially joining on loan from FBK Kaunas in 2006.

He played more than 200 for the club and lifted the Scottish Cup in 2012 after a 5-1 win over Hibs.

Hen then joined Leeds before moving to Rangers where he spent a season before retiring in 2016 with Zalgiris in his homeland.
