Hearts go on 11-goal spree whilst fielding two different teams in friendly thrashings

Hearts went on a goal spree last night after finding the net a combined 11 times across two friendlies in the capital.

The Jambos kicked off the evening at 6pm with a 4-0 victory over Lowland League outfit Civil Service Strollers.

And just minutes after that game finished, a completely different team then set about tearing Spartans apart in a 7-0 thrashing at Ainslie Park just one mile up the road.

In the first outing, Andy Halliday, Jamie Walker, Armand Gnanduillet and youngster Makenzie Kirk - son of former Hearts striker and coach Andy, all found the net.

A different squad then went goal crazy against Spartans.

New loan signing from Brighton Alex Cochrane made his first outing in a maroon jersey after signing on Monday and capped his debut with a goal in the second half.

Hearts were already well in control at the point after going in at the break three ahead through a Liam Boyce brace and Craig Halkett header.

Hearts then stepped it up with four goals in nine minutes at the start of the second period.

Gary Mackay-Steven notched a double either side of a Loic Damour effort and Cochrane’s strike.

The night was a good fitness-building exercise for the Championship winners after some 34 players featured.

Manager Robbie Neilson was also back in the dugout with assistants Lee McCulloch and Gordon Forrest after the trio missed Saturday’s 6-0 thrashing of Linlithgow Rose due to Covid-related issues.

That clash came after Hearts were forced to postpone Friday’s friendly at Berwick Rangers following the news five members of the club’s football department tested positive for coronavirus.
