Hearts flop Joel Pereira's suffers nightmare first-team return as keeper concedes SEVEN

Goalkeeper Joel Pereira struggled for Hearts as the club endured a disappointing campaign last season.

The 24-year-old joined the Jambos on loan in August 2019, and went on to make a total of 25 appearances for the Tynecastle club as they were demoted from the Premiership during the curtailed campaign.

Having now left the capital, the Manchester United loanee has moved on to Huddersfield in a bid to put his first-team struggles behind him.

However. things didn't go to plan against high-flying Norwich in only his second start of the Championship season.

Pereira's first game of the season came in late November when he conceded four goals in a 4-3 defeat by Stoke City and he was swiftly dropped to the bench.

First-choice Ryan Schofield fell ill ahead of last night's clash with league leaders Norwich and the Portugese shot-stopper was drafted in to the starting line-up.

Unfortunately for the loanee his side were on the wrong end of a 7-0 thrashing.

Terriers boss Carlos Corberan refused to blame Pereira for the defeat, telling Yorkshire Live: "To concede seven goals is hard for all of us, for all the team, because every single goal we concede we suffer in ourselves, not only because Joel is for all of us but because there was no doubt that I cannot be watching him as responsible for any of the goals."

Pereira is out of contract at Old Trafford in the summer and is reportedly earning a £20,000-a-week salary.
